| Abraham Booth (1734-1806) was born at Blackwell in Derbyshire. On reaching his 24th year, he married Elizabeth Bowmar, a farmer’s daughter, and soon afterwards opened a school at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.
