The Minor Prophets are an important but often neglected part of the Bible. The corpus which constitutes the Minor Prophets includes twelve books, each written by a different prophet. Due to the number of books, they were historically referred to as ‘The Book of the Twelve’ or simply ‘The Twelve’. Today, they are most commonly referred to as the ‘Minor Prophets’. It is important to note, however, that they are not referred to as ‘minor’ because they lack theological significance, but this title rather reflects the relatively short length of their individual prophecies. In fact, these twelve books are anything but minor. They are filled with tremendously deep and rich theological material. The Minor Prophets will certainly not prove minor to any reader who will invest the time to explore them.

While the Minor Prophets speak to a vast array of issues, this book is particularly focused on what they have to say about Jesus Christ. This book is not a verse-by-verse commentary on the Minor Prophets, nor is it an effort to deal with all of the implications of their prophecies. Rather, this book is about how the Minor Prophets speak about Jesus Christ. Why is the focus on Jesus Christ? It is because Jesus is the central figure of the entire Bible. The entire Bible speaks of him, including the Minor Prophets. Simply stated, the Bible is ultimately about Jesus Christ and his redemptive work.

Anthony Selvaggio, formerly a practising attorney, is currently the pastor of the College Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church (RPCNA) in Beaver Falls, PA, USA. He also serves as an adjunct professor of Biblical Studies at the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, PA.

Series Editors:

Dr John D. Currid is Carl McMurray Professor of Old Testament at Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte, South Carolina, USA
Robert Strivens is Principal of London Theological Seminary, London.

'This valuable little work is an overview of the twelve books of the Old Testament known collectively as the Minor Prophets. While it is true that these prophecies deal with a wide variety of subjects, Anthony Selvaggio, pastor of College Hill Reformed Presbyterian Church in Beaver falls, Pennsylvania, focuses exclusively on what they have to say about the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible as a whole is ultimately about Jesus, so the entire Bible speaks of him — and that includes the Minor Prophets.'

'These Christ-centred expositions of repentance and grace, faith and obedience, judgement and glory are both challenging and encouraging. To think through, pray over and act upon the discussion questions which end each chapter will materially increase the value of this work. Enthusiastically recommended.'

'Each chapter is liberally peppered with quotes from various sources and the writer manage to package the view of Christ in each prophetic message into two or three helpful points. He shows how pertinent the great themes found in the Minor Prophets are to us today, Obadiah’s exposition of the two seeds, the famine of God’s Word proclaimed to Amos, the nature of true repentance found in Joel, the faithfulness of Christ as seen in the message of Hosea, the challenge of the grace of God found in the ministry of Jonah, to name but a few. Warm, informative and challenging, its a real investment.'

'The genius of this publication is in the way Mr Selvaggio clearly establishes in his introduction the present day relevance of each of the Minor Prophets, and as the title suggests; how each book speaks about Christ.'

'This title is a valuable asset for those who lead house groups or youth groups, as well as for those who want to help in their personal devotions.'

'Selvaggio's book is part of the Emmaus series, edited by John Currid and Robert Strivens. The purpose statement of the Emmaus series is "to speak directly to pastors, teachers and students of the Word of God on those issues that impact on their everyday ministry and life." Selvaggio certainly achieved that goal.'

It would be very surprising if one does not read this book and come away wanting to go further and deeper into these wonderful books. The minor prophets are treasure stores which need only Christ as the key to unlock them, and this the author has done for us.
